Hi, my name is Dr. Hans Delfo, Doctor of Chiropractic in Los Angeles, California. Today, I wanted to talk a little bit about how to respond to head and spinal injuries. Head and spinal injuries are very severe. They usually come with things like auto accidents, sports injuries, slips and falls. How you treat them is very important. Anyone who suffers a head or spinal injury is a very serious situation. So, they must be approached with caution. Some signs to look for are nauseousness, vomiting, headache, disorientation, loss of consciousness, bleeding from the head, neck or spine. And differentiation in size of pupils. These things must all be evaluated after a spinal or head injury. It is important not to move the patient unless they are in expressed danger. If the evaluation has occurred and there is no emergency room involved, the patient still needs to be monitored for the next 24 to 48 hours. Some important signs to look for are recurrence of nauseousness, vomiting, disorientation and important thing is a headache. If a headache is persistent or gets worse over the next 24 to 48 hours it is important to seek emergency help right away. After any head or spinal injury or any injury for that matter it is important to see a doctor of chiropractic. A chiropractor will do a comprehensive nerve evaluation and help to remove any interference on any nerves, any impingements and allow your body to heal itself as fast as possible. It can take care of any acute soft tissue injuries, things like muscle spasm, joint problems through simple adjustments. It can allow your body to heal itself much faster. This is Dr. Hans Delfo, and this has been a little bit about how to respond to head or spinal injuries.
