Hello, my name is Bryan Hapeman, hockey director at The Wilmington Ice House in Wilmington, North Carolina and I'm going to talk to you about how to break in hockey skates. For this you will need hockey skates and a skate bake oven. When you get your new skates, the first thing that can be done to break them in is go to your local pro shop, which they have a special skate baking oven and that is shown here. Simply put the skates in, turn the oven on and allow it to warm up and bake your skates for 15 minutes. Upon completion of that 15 minutes, you take the skates out and put them on your feet, you lace them up completely and tie them up and you leave them that way for 20 minutes. I do want to point out that this is done through a special skate oven at your local pro shop. This is not done in the conventional oven at your home. Do not put your skates in your oven at home. You'll not get the same results. If you do not have the opportunity or the location to get to a pro shop with a baking oven for your skates, another alternative is to put them into the bathtub. You fill the bathtub up with hot water as hot water as you can stand and you then put your skates on outside of the bathtub and you dunk them in the hot water and allow them to sit for 20 minutes in the hot water and then you take them out of the hot water and you leave them on for another 20 and then take them off your skate and allow them to dry off and that's how to break in your hockey skate.
