Hi, I'm Jene with Jene's Tropicals in St.Petersburg, Florida. Today, I'm going to demonstrate how to espalier a tree. Here are the materials needed, a sharp pair of pruners, some stretchy tie tape and you could either use lattice, trellis or here I have a really sturdy, beautiful wooden grid. This is a Acer Palmatum, a dwarf Japanese maple and it'll make a beautiful little espalier. So, just, there are a few basic rules, first anything coming at you, you want to take off. Anything coming at me, also if there's any dead wood, go ahead and take it off. When you groom an espalier, I mean, it generally takes two or three good seasons to come out with a masterpiece. But this is like basic training and it'll take just periodic grooming through the year, and it will be beautiful as an espalier. Here are the beginning of a beautiful dwarf maple espalier, just give it a couple seasons and it will be gorgeous. I'm Jene, have a great day!
