Hi, I'm Sally Landau. I'm your Relationship Coach and my company is Dating Can Be Fun. How to date a deaf person? I'm going to make this assumption that you're not deaf and you want to date a deaf person. Well, except for hearing, this person is just like you; lives, breaths, cares, loves, gets upset, eats, sleeps. It's just a person who doesn't have hearing. And, from what I understand, people who've lost one of their senses, their other senses are super human great. So, they can't hear. So, there are many ways that you can communicate with this person. You may or may not already know or want to learn sign language or you might want to learn other forms of communication. They maybe lip readers. They maybe sign language people. You find out what it is and figure out how to communicate. So, I had a friend who is married to a deaf man and I became friends with him too. And what's cool about him is that he was a lip reader, an amazing lip reader and when he didn't want to listen to you, he will just turn his head. And I go, "I'm talking to you." And he'd love that. He said, "You know, you're one of the few people that's not afraid to treat me like a normal person." And I'd say, "I'm talking to you, I want you to listen." So, one time I asked him when we're in conversation, "How do you communicate like if you had sex at night, how do you communicate?" Is it all non-verbal? He said, "No." "We have a fish tank that has light in it in our bedroom, I can see her lips through the light and it's glowing from the fish tank." So, I would say if you're dating someone that's deaf, treat them like a normal person, just love them like you love anyone and if there are ways that you can communicate, that they need to teach you, then, be opened to learn.
