Hi my name is Tanya Batts and I'm a personal trainer at Gold's Gym. I want to talk to you about breathing exercises for hypertension. The things you will need for this are a mat and some space. Hypertension is just a fancy word for high blood pressure. So if you feel a little stressed, a little tired, you do need to get your blood pressure checked and you can get it checked anywhere, Wal-Mart, any pharmacy. They have got that free machine and get your blood pressure checked. But here's how you can really help to reduce your blood pressure. So I'm talking about if you are stressed out and your blood pressure goes up. You want to think about breathing. So you want to find a comfortable place, sit tall. You can put your thumbs to your index finger if you want, relax the shoulders and I want you to think about when you breathe in, filling the lungs full and then exhale all the air out of the lungs. So you can inhale through the nose and exhale through the mouth or just inhale through the nose and exhale through the nose. So with every exhale you want to think about really sending all the breath out of your lungs. This is really going to help reduce stress. It's going to help your lungs become more elastic. It's just going to help the blood flow a little better, help with circulation and that's going to help you reduce your blood pressure. So a few, like about ten minutes a day just think about inhaling and exhaling and it's really going to help with hypertension.
