Hi, I'm Charlotte Lawson, a Registered Licensed Dietitian here in Tampa Bay, Florida. You may be on some sort of weight loss program and have heard about oatmeal as a good tactic for losing weight. Oatmeal is definitely a beneficial and healthy portion or part of a good, well-rounded diet looking for weight loss. Oatmeal provides us with fiber. Fiber is something our body does not digest at all. It provides us with no caloric value and sticks with us longer. When you have a diet higher in fiber, you're more likely to stay and feel full and satisfied for a longer period of time. Our body takes a very long time to attempt to digest this. So, when we feel fuller, we're less likely to go for sweet snacks and even overeat calories maybe did not need. Starting the day with a, a serving of oatmeal, again, is an excellent source of fiber and a great way to start the day. Try to go for the whole grain and whole and still cut oats. These are going to have most of the vitamins and minerals along with that extra fiber still left intact. Instant is not a bad choice though. If you well, live a busy lifestyle like myself, sometimes just getting that little bit of oatmeal from the instant packet is a convenience and it still does have some fiber and the vitamins and minerals. So, see which one works for you. Try to get creative as well; maybe mix in some fruit, try some different spices like cinnamon, a little bit of alternative sweeteners maybe some like Splenda or something. You can get really jazzed up with your own meal if you get creative. And again, ultimately we're looking at the fiber content to really help us with that weight loss.
