Hello my name is Dr. James Talbott from Belle Forest Animal Hospital in Nashville, Tennessee and here's how to get rid of skunk smell on a dog. Here are the things you are going to need. You will need one quart of Hydrogen Peroxide and mix that with a quarter cup of baking soda and then one teaspoon of liquid soap. By mixing the one quart of Hydrogen Peroxide and a quarter cup of baking soda in liquid soap, you get a solution that will neutralize the odor and get rid of that nasty smell from dogs that have been sprayed b a skunk and what you'll need to do is mix these ingredients and use it immediately. You can't keep them on hand because it goes bad but then rub that into the areas on the hair where the skunk has sprayed the dog and leave that on for five to ten minutes and then rinse thoroughly. A couple cautions, skunk spray can also cause conjunctivitis in dogs and irritate their eyes so if that is occurring, get your veterinarian to check that out. Also, Hydrogen Peroxide can bleach the coat or the hair on a dog so if you have a black dog or something like that you may want to use a commercial shampoo instead. And those are some helpful hints on how to get rid of skunk spray on a dog.
