Hi, I'm Charlotte Lawson, a Registered, Licensed Dietitian here in Tampa Bay, Florida. And eating a high fiber diet can be a bit challenging in today's world. Things that are processed and packaged and extra-mealed don't contain a lot of fiber. Yet, they're very easily, readily available for us. Eating high fiber can be as simple as looking back the very beginning. Anything that you can eat in its whole form, consider a whole carrot or a whole apple versus its processed form, like applesauce, is going to contain more fiber than the latter. These are easy fixes to do when trying to look at convenience. You can bring a simple apple with you; but maybe the applesauce maybe isn't so carryable. Also know, that when starting a high fiber diet, you may feel some abdominal discomfort. So, start slowly. Don't try to pack in thirty amount, thirty grams of fiber in one setting. The recommended daily amount for most average adult is twenty five to thirty grams per day and most of us don't get nearly close to that. So, looking at these whole foods is a great way to add fiber. Also, certain foods like beans, excellent source of protein and fiber can be a simple additive to a daily lunch. And, there's a lot of different cereals nowadays offering added fiber as well. Looking at your nutrition facts label on the back of the box or package is an excellent way to see how much fiber is in that food you're eating. Whole grain breads and other whole grain cereals are going to contain at least three to be a good source of fiber, and these are actually very easy to find nowadays. So, don't threat, check out your nutrition labels to see how many there are. Fiber is an excellent source for us because it helps to prevent a lot of cancers, helps us to feel full, or we may not eat as much as we would have before, and also sits in our body and creates regular bowel movements, which nobody ever wants to not have that. So, start slow, look at the nutrition facts labels and try to eat something in its whole form. These are easy ways to add good sources of fiber to your diet.
