Video: How to Jump a BMX Bike

When jumping a BMX bike, it is important to practice a clean landing on both wheels simultaneously, or to land slightly on the back wheel to prevent flipping forward. Master jumping a bike with help from a professional BMX competitor in this free video on BMX tricks.

Hey there, I'm Brian Gavagan of Yellow Designs Stunt Team. We're in The Yellow Zone at The Woodward Skate Park in Denver, Colorado. Today, I'm going to teach you how to jump a BMX bike. What you want to do is make sure you've got enough speed to jump your jump without landing on the front wheel. You want to be able to jump it and land flat on both wheels at the same time or a tiny bit on your rear wheel. Another thing that's very important, you've got to make sure that you're standing up when you hit the jump. You are going to want to be standing up and you want your pedals level. You don't want to have one pedal up and one pedal down or you're going to go to that side. So, pedal fast, go towards your jump. About ten feet prior to the take off you want to stop pedaling, keep your pedals level, stand up, be looking straight forward, get a little bit loose with your arms and your knees. When you take off, if you do turn your bars or get sideways with a little bit of a tabletop, make sure you're ready for the landing. You can keep your front wheel in a straight line so when you do land you keep going in a straight line. The main things though, you're going to want to pedal fast so that you've got enough speed, stand up, stop pedaling before the jump and then do a nice relaxed take off and landing. You'll get there, you'll have a great time and catching air is a blast. So get out there and practice.
