Hi, I'm Gretchen Rivas with Relax! Massage Therapy in Wilmington, North Carolina, and today we're going to talk about how to give Chinese Tui Na Massage. What you need for this, is just a table and some space. Tui Na means to grasp and to pull and Tui Na massage has been around for thousand of years and is one of the art forms practiced along with Acupuncture, Gua Sha and other forms of Chinese medicine. So, with Tui Na basically what you do is, again, it's a grasping and pulling technique. It's the, it was the foundation for Swedish massage and most other massage techniques that you find today. And but, it's been around longer and has very therapeutic effects. So, whenever you're doing Chinese Tui Na, you're going to do more of a grasping and pulling. Part of the purpose of it, is to open some of energetic channels along the body. So, if you're going along the back, you're going to be doing this grasping and pulling. And it kind of gives you an idea of what's going on with the body, where there might be some stagnation or there might be some things going on along the channels. And many acupuncturists will use Tui Na to get in there and kind of, palpate and figure out what's going before they use needles, to release energetic flow that's stagnant, stuck. So, when you're doing the Chinese Tui Na, you just get in there and you grasp and you pull and you open and you work on that person. And you just kind of get in there, and open things up. And that helps open the energetic flow within the body and helps them feel good. And that's how you do Chinese Tui Na.
