Hello. I'm Sue Walker, and I'm going to show you how to cook New York strip steaks in the oven. You will need: a broiler ban or a baking pan with a wire rack, cooking spray, an oven with a broiler, and a pair of tongs. The ingredients are: New York strip steak, olive oil, salt, pepper, and your favorite seasoning. Make sure the steak is at room temperature before cooking. This will allow the steak to cook evenly throughout. Preheat the oven to broil, and make sure the oven rack is toward the top. Spray the broiler pan, or your baking pan, with cooking spray. Pour one cup of water into the bottom of the broiler pan. Scrap off any visible fat. Brush the meat with olive oil. Season the meat with your seasoning. Sprinkle a little salt and pepper, using your own taste as a guide to how much to use. Place the steaks on the broiler pan, and put in the oven on the top rack. Watch closely, as the steaks will cook very quickly. The rule of thumb for degree of doneness is: rare - two the three minutes on each side, medium - four to five minutes on each side, and for well done - six to seven minutes per side. And that is how to cook New York strip steak in the oven.
