Hi, my name is Nathan McConnell. I'm a paramedic and EMS instructor in Brunswick County, North Carolina, and this is uses of rubbing alcohol. Some of the simple uses for rubbing alcohol are to clean minor cuts and scrapes and wounds of that nature. We can use rubbing alcohol after we have already cleaned the wound with water or soap, and water to get an extra level of cleanliness on top of just the soap in soap and water alone. We want to make sure that we don't use rubbing alcohol or any of these types of cleaners in major wounds or deep wounds that may still have some bleeding going on. This can cause extra infection on top of the wound, and it's not good for the patient. Other uses of rubbing alcohol would be to clean IV sites before we actually start an IV, that we want to make sure that we get the site prepared and clean before we actually start an IV, and rubbing alcohol is one way we can do that. There are other many uses of alcohol around the house for cleaning different equipment. We can use rubbing alcohol to clean our scissors, our instruments that we use as EMS as well. My name is Nathan McConnell and this has been some uses for rubbing alcohol.
