Hi, I'm Sue Walker and I'm going to show you how to zest a lemon without a zester. The things you will need are a lemon, a cutting board, a grater, and a pastry brush. Start by washing your lemon with warm water, making sure that any wax or dirt are removed. Then pat it dry with a paper towel. Place the grater in the center of the cutting board. Hold it at a 45 degree angle with one hand, making sure the teeth of the grater are facing up. Take the lemon with the other hand and applying pressure, move it down the grater, zesting only the yellow colored part of the peel. If you get to the white part, move to another spot. Keep grating until you have the amount you need. To remove any lemon zest left in the grater, take a pastry brush and brush it off, and that is how to zest a lemon without a zester.
