Hey, I'm Dr. Bob Pane; a Veterinarian at southkendall.com. How to treat seizures in dogs naturally? That's a tough question because depending on what causing it and if it's a, if it's a brain tumor that's getting bigger in your brain, you're going to have a very difficult time in treating that with holistic medications. There are omega fatty acids that lower the inflammation naturally. Omega fatty 3s are the ones that a lot of people use for that. If I have found some of the dogs are induced by food allergies by going on a hypoallergenic diet; sometimes we've reduced the amount of seizure, seizures in dogs. The problem is if you have a seizure that lasts for more than a few minutes, you could have a hypothermic problem, a hypoglycemic problem that may cause serious series brain dysfunction and permanent damage to your brain. So it's really important that you go through with your veterinarian and find what he or she recommends doing before you go to this. But hypoallergenic diets like venison or rabbit or kangaroos sometimes will reduce the amount of frequency of seizures. There are many reasons why seizures occur and so you need to find out why, and sometimes it's very expensive to do a CAT-scan in a dog, it's over a thousand dollars. Most seizures, fortunately, could be treated easily with Phenobarbital, which is not a natural product; but it's really inexpensive and fairly non-toxic. I hardly ever see a dog with toxicity from Phenobarbital. If anything we need more of it, I mean we need to use something like Potassium Bromide. I have one the other day that I, yesterday actually, that we had it treated with Phenobarbital Valium and although those are not natural products; but sometimes you need veterinary care to help you control it. But hypoallergenic diets, omega fatty acids; you can call the Holistic Society and find out who and what they recommend in that field for that.
