Hi, my name is Chris Noble. I'm an independent IT consultant and I'm here to tell you how to set up a wireless Internet connection. Things you'll need for this are a wireless broadband router, a broadband connection and a computer. The next step is to plug the broadband router in to your wireless broadband connection, which you're using ADSL, will be like a phone jack connection, where if you're using cable will be a cable modem connection. Once you've connected the Internet to the router, power the router on and be patient. You'll need to wait a few minutes for the lights to start flashing for connection to the Internet to be made. The next step is to configure the wireless network. And to do that you'll need to access the wireless router's log in page which is typically at 192.168.1.1., and type that in to the Internet Explorer or Firefox. It should take you to the log in page of the router. Now normal routers are the same. You may find that you're IP address for your router is very different. So read the instructions that came with the box to get the IP address and the log in for your router. Once you gain access to the wireless router, there are three things that you need to set up. The first is the SSID or the network name that you're going to be calling your network. If your last name is Jones you could call your network Jones for example. Then people that come to your house will know which network to connect to. The second is the security on the network and you can use a WEP or a WPA password. Again the information screen on your router should guide you through how to set up that network security. And lastly it's best to change the security of your router. Many people leave their log in details for their router as the default. The last step is to disconnect your from the wireless router and to then search for wireless networks. And the wireless network with the name or the SSID that you set up before should now be viewable; just a case of connecting to it and using the password that you set up earlier.
