"Hello, I'm Debbie Benami-Rahm, a career expert with dbrcareerservices.com. Let's talk a little bit how to find after-school jobs for teens. This can be the foundation for your child's complete career future; if you look at it like that. So, let's start with the very very fundamental thing here. What do your teens like to do? What are they passionate at? What are their talents? What are their skills, their knowledge, their abilities? Is your teen an athlete? Is your teen artistic? Is your teen technologically oriented; which most teens are. Talk to them. Sit down. Ask them. What do you really love to do? If someone's a sports person, maybe they want to be an umpire at the local leagues sports game. If they love children; maybe they want to be a after-school care counselor at one of the childcare centers. If they are a technology person; really, really good with that and they want to do something like build some websites or help somebody after school with their technology needs. So that's the first step. What do they love to do? Then, if it's a regular job that needs an application to be completed, go over how to fill out an application with them. Also show them where some of the sites might be. Actually, they can probably find it better on their own; but discuss with them how there are a lot of job posting boards online that are geared specifically to teens and specifically for after school work. Make sure that it's age appropriate because some places don't let people start working until they're sixteen and then there are a few places that start at fourteen. So anywhere from fourteen on up, a formal job application can be completed. Then, look through all of your personal contacts through work, personal; any kind of places of worship that you attend; community organizations and connect your teen with a person that can help open the door for them."
