How to add an oil relocation kit to your Yamaha V-Star 1100

Summary: Change your oil filter or add an oil relocation kit to your Yamaha Vstar 1100. Here's how to do it yourself instead of hiring a mechanic. I am not knowledgeable in the inner workings of motorcycles and still managed to successfully change my filter and add a relocation kit while I was at it.

Instructions
  1. Step 1
    Oil drained.
    Oil drained.

    Gather all your necessary supplies. Warm up bike for a moment, turn off, and drain oil.

  2. Step 2
    Foot rest lowered
    Foot rest lowered

    Loosen foot rest.

  3. Step 3
    Rear exhaust removed
    Rear exhaust removed

    Remove lower exhaust pipe. Remove rear portion first.

  4. Step 4

    Front portion of exhaust

    Remove front lower exhaust.

  5. Step 5
    Cover plate
    Cover plate

    Remove decorative chrome cover plate. Five screws hold it on.

    Remove housing
    Remove housing

    Remove oil filter housing/cover and then remove oil filter.

  7. Step 7
    Red & Black o-rings

    If you are just changing the oil filter- replace filter now and reverse the steps. Add oil. Check for leaks. Continue on if you are adding a relocation kit.

    Take red and black "O" rings off old oil filter housing and place them on the new oil relocation kit's diverter/housing.

  8. Step 8

    Slide new oil diverter into place where the old oil filter housing went. Attach with 3 screws.

  9. Step 9

    Unscrew clasp on new relocation oil diverter. (This can be done before step 8) Then bend flexible arms around to fit clasp around crossbar in front. Screw into place.

  10. Step 10
    Oil filter on
    Oil filter on

    Screw on oil filter housing and filter near crossbar. Add oil. Check for leaks.

    Now your oil filter is so easily accessible.
