"Hi, I'm Phyllis Cambria with partyplansplus.com. Let's talk a little bit about how to be an event coordinator volunteer. That's the question I get ask the most. How do you get started? And my answer always is, volunteer. There are so many non-profit organizations out there who need your help. The large ones very often have an on-site planner that's on their payroll. But there are a lot of smaller organizations that need your help in coordinating fund raisers, friend raisers and other events that get them known in the community and that's something you can easily do. If you're just getting started I would suggest that you work on a committee rather than chair their entire event. Once you've gotten to know what you're doing and more about the association, then that would be a good time to volunteer. This is a good time to come up with a great idea for fundraiser and soon you'll be having the opportunity to work for that organization, raise money for them and you'll be able to have a lot of pictures and experience to put into your portfolio."
