Hi, my name is Missan Edwards and my husband Doug Edwards; we are the owners at ETO Martial Arts and Fitness in Kennesaw, Georgia. Many styles use this particular weapon called the bo to do their weapons training well. Now I'm going to show you some just basic techniques and then depending on the styles, you can get quite flamboyant with it. Most of these bos have a striking technique, a blocking technique or spinning technique. So if I strike my back stance position, I can do a strike to the groin, like so. "A-ya." Okay. And once I buckle my opponent over with a strike to the groin, then I can knock him to the ground with another strike to the head. "A-yas." Now, if I am sparring someone that's got a stick in their hand or another weapon, I can use my stick as a blocking tool and I hit my back stance here and I can do a, a C block or a U block; making sure that the weapon is far enough away from my torso and my face to stop that, an incoming attack. Now the final piece is a spin and there's several different spins. I'm going to show you the basic spin; it's called the figure eight. I put my bow in front and then I go to the side of my body, around, side of my body and around. So I'm basically drawing a figure eight with my stick and then I can do it faster. And then from the spin, finish it up with the, "Aya-sat", strike.
