"Hello, my name is Dr. Stephen Mandy and I am a Dermatologist associated with South Beach Dermatology in Miami Beach, Florida. Let's talk about how to get rid of fungus. I think the first thing people should recognize is that fungal infections are often blame for a lot of things that they have nothing to do with. Fungus is obsequious in the environment and people who are susceptible are easy prey for the fungus. There are many types of fungal infections and to distinguish them is difficult within a short period of time. The most common that people see us for are what they call sunspots on the upper back and, and chest. That can best be treated by the use of a selenium sulfide or Selsun shampoo; there's Selsun Blue; Head and Shoulders is also effective for that and that can be done by just scrubbing the area everyday for a period of two or three weeks that will usually be effective. For funguses such as in the groin or feet, there are many over the counter anti-fungal products available, Lotraminie, Lamisil, Miconazole, all of those are available for your pharmacy; all will work but not in a single day. They need to be applied daily for three to four weeks in order to cure. Beyond that you need to see your Dermatologist for oral anti-fungal medication."
