"Hello, my name is Dr. Stephen Mandy, and I am a Dermatologist, associated with South Beach Dermatology, in Miami Beach, Florida. Let's talk about cures for vitiligo. There is no cure for vitiligo. That's the upstart. The bottom line is on vitiligo this is a autoimmune disease, where the body eliminates the pigment and pigment producing cells from the skin. It is very often hereditarily predictable. It also can be, occur in certain types of endocrine and in certain types of anemic situations, but very often, it's what we call idiopathic. We do not have an underlying cause. Occasionally, there are topical preparations which are known as anti-inflammatories, like steroids or other types of immune modulators, that dermatologists can prescribe that will improve the process. There's also a very specialized laser called an excimer laser that can, in various situations, improve the product, the problem. And then, there are surgical techniques which have been used to somewhat improve the problem. But for most people, the most successful is a waterproof cover-up makeup."
