"Hello this is Adrien Matthews at Tayst Restaurant in Nashville, Tennessee. Today we are going to talk about opening a wine bottle that contains a synthetic cork. In order to accomplish this you are going to need a bottle opener, and a wine bottle containing a synthetic cork. As the worlds supply of natural cork dwindles more and more wine makers are beginning to use synthetic corks. They can present one small problem though, opening the bottle. So the first step as always is to cut the foil off of the bottle. So you just take the blade of your wine tool, put it on the lip of the bottle, and make an incision all the way around, peel it back, and pull it off. You want to take the cork screw and put it as close to the center of the cork as possible, press down, and then begin to twist clockwise. The one problem that you will run into sometimes with a synthetic cork is that it begins to stick right at the point where you begin pulling it from the bottle. Of course since I am on camera this one did not, but typically you have to put a little more force right at that initial pulling point. The rest comes out just like any other wine cork. So regardless of which type of cork you encounter, natural cork or synthetic you can still enjoy a nice glass of wine."
