"Hello, my name is Shauna Jankoviak with Perfectly Planned Weddings And Events here in Austin, Texas and today I'm going to share with you how to change your name once married. So in order to change your name, you will need to go to the Social Security office; the driver's license deal with, you'll need to change your name with your bank and with all your vendors. First, you'll need to go to the Social Security office and you'll need your current Social Security card and your driver's license and you go there and you apply for a new card under your new name with your marriage certificate once you receive it from the county. Then they will take about two weeks to mail you a new one. Second, you will need to go to the driver's license office. Now all states will be different; but in most states what you'll need is your marriage certificate, birth certificate, your current driver's license, proof of registration on your car and proof of insurance. And then they will take your picture and give you a new temporary card and then they'll mail you the new driver's license usually within about two weeks. And then third, you would go to your bank with your marriage certificate and your temporary ID's and then they can change your name on your accounts. And then fourth, you would need to contact all your vendors; your bill, phone people, credit card people and let them know that you have change your name. In most cases you will need to mail them a copy of your marriage certificate and then they would finally be able to change your name once they receive that. And then finally, once you have your new ID and Social Security card, you can go to your employer and let them know that you are changing your name. Just be aware that you might have to fill out new W-2 forms and I-9 forms for their, for their paperwork.
