Each state does vary in balls, laws and fees. So you will need to research what it is particular for your state and then go down to your county office; you will need your driver's license, birth certificate and if you've been married before, you will need your decree of divorce paperwork. Then you go down, with that, to the county office and register, pre-register your wedding within thirty days of your wedding date, but no less than three days before. And then you give them your paperwork and you will usually have to pay a fee and it does vary between each state and then after that you take the marriage certificate with you on your wedding day and have your official sign the marriage certificate. After the wedding ceremony, you, you return it to the county either by mail or drop it off and then they will register your wedding with the county and then mail it back to you within usually two weeks.
