"I'm Brian Bussemey from Cowboy Harley Davidson of Austin. We will be telling you how to replace a motorcycle rim. This is a very involved procedure and is not something that we recommend you do at home but if you were, you need to unmount the tire, take the tube off the tire, each one of these spoke nipples which there is 40 of them on this particular wheel have to be removed and the spokes have to be removed from the hub. This is a kind of a condensed, you know the process of doing it is very easy to explain, actually doing it takes a whole lot longer than the amount of time it takes to say, you know to do this. These spokes, removing the spokes from the hub is a fairly easy procedure. Like I said all you have to do is take the spoke nipples off with the tire off, the hub will loosen up and you'll be able to pull the spokes out one at a time. They come from the top and they go through the center of the hub. Once you have all of that out, putting all the spokes back in which is called lacing a wheel is a very particular process in which the spokes have to go exactly where they need to be. They cross over a certain number of spokes in the pattern, they hook up to certain holes in the rim which all align together. If any of this is off then the rim will not go together properly. After we have all of the spokes in the hub and we have all of our nipples back on the spokes the next procedure is to true the rim which we have to have the rim on a truing stand and go through with dial indicators on the rim and tighten these spokes accordingly to get the rim to spin true to the hub. If we don't do this then the rim is going to be out of true with the hub. This is about a three to a four hour procedure to do here in the shop with specialized equipment. We really do not recommend that you do this job at home. Buy a new wheel or take it to an authorized dealership to have this repaired. I'm Brian Bussemey from Cowboy Harley Davidson of Austin and that was talking you through replacing a rim."
