"Hi, my name is Doctor Laura Grashow and I'm a child psychologist in private practice here in south Florida. Lets talk about how to help children deal with anger. You are a huge player in this scenario. Children are modeling your responses. If you are quick to lose your temper, they're going to imitate okay. So, it's very important that you learn how to stay calm and not react very quickly when something angers you but in working with children what we really want to focus on is teaching them the language of emotion. Helping them identify the emotions that they're experiencing mainly anger and then we want to talk to them about the degree of anger that they are experiencing because we want to help them sort of cut it off at the pass. Once you get to a seven, you're probably going to go up on the scale to a ten. So, we want to help children become very self-aware in terms of how angry they are and we also want to talk to them about the way they're talking to themselves. If they're justifying that anger or really feeling like they should be that angry and lastly, we want to teach them alternate responses beside just blowing up or getting aggressive."
