"Hi this is Yolanda Vanveen and in this segment we are going to talk about how to grow Enoki mushrooms. Now there is many different types of mushrooms and they are all wonderful. These are Enoki mushrooms and they are great for salads and stir fries and all types of different dishes and they're actually pretty easy to grow. Now you can buy them fresh and you can actually try to start them fresh into your shade garden if you have a really shady moist area you can put them right in the soil and you can start them that way or it's a lot easier, now this isn't going to be really that successful, is you start with the spores and you can try to use the spores on the bottom of these mushrooms but a lot of times that's really hard to be successful so you need to buy the spores from a reputable dealer and you can either start them right in a bag and a lot of times you can just use any type of compost or grass clippings or straw works really well. A lot of people say to boil it first so there is nothing added no weeds or anything, and then you just get the spores and you mix them in with your straw and add some moisture, some compost and just keep it moist in a really shady area and your Enoki mushrooms will come up right in the bag. Another rule or another way you can grow them is right into some wood, any type of bark. You don't want to use pine. You want to always use oak or birch or any type of other wood or a pear and apple works really well too and you just cut little troughs right into the wood and you can put the spores right into the wood and either cover it with plastic or leave it in a really moist area if you have a nice wooded area and then in the Spring and the Summer of the next year you'll get your nice Enoki mushrooms coming right up. So it's challenging to grow mushrooms but as long as you try to recreate nature and give them lots of moisture and a real shady spot, wherever moss will grow generally they'll grow really well. So you will find that you an grow your own Enoki mushrooms."

on 10/24/2009 Oh man, i don't know how to start, this lady has no clue what she is talking about. For starters... there is no for starters, everything she says is wrong.
Please if you are interested in mycology check out the shroomery.org
you cannot start growing from a bag, there are numerous steps before you can even think about a bag. You usually never start with spores unless you understand the hobby. You want to start off with "spawn"that is spores that have already germinated and spread through a primary substrate; mycelium laden water, or plug spawn are both ways beginners can start.
You can use logs;but what she is doing in this video has nothing to do with the process. i don't even know what she is talking about.also the log she is using is to old. You can see the bark starting to fall off. The diameter of the log should also be no greater then 8 inches her log look like a good foot.
