"Hello this is Coach Byron Walker. I'm the athletic director and head football coach at American Heritage School in Plantation, Florida. Let's talk a little bit about how to become a high school football recruit. The recruiting process in high school is probably one of the most anxiety creating situations in a high school football player's life. College football is not for everybody but there are a number of different levels to participate on from the division level three up and there are things that you can do to make yourself more desirable as a recruit. A university might not know you are out there. One of the things to do is to enlist the help of your coaches, particularly the head coach. Be sure that there is film available on you, that your coach can make the right connections for you and take advantage of those things. You and your parents can be an active part in the recruiting process by asking of copies of film from your coaches, sending those films out to places that you may be interested in playing on a collegiate level. Many schools have an official on campus, on staff who is in charge of helping you to be recruited. In addition you certainly need to prepare yourself physically to become a high school football recruit. Get in the weight room, participate in Summer workouts, go to combines, go to camps, all those things will help because you never know when a college coach may be there, be looking for a person and you may be the guy. Promote yourself, get your parents to promote you, get your teachers to promote you and certainly get your coaches to promote you. Be a good guy and all those people will love to help you."
