"Hello, my name is Doctor Simion Tsinker, I am with Plantation Maternity Center in Plantation, Florida. What sleeping positions are good during pregnancy? In the beginning of the pregnancy when the womb is reasonably small a woman could lay in bed in whichever position she feels comfortable. It is not going to make much difference, but as the pregnancy progresses and the abdomen starts enlarging the womb starts growing bigger and bigger, a woman will find some difficulty breathing in certain positions or inconvenience while laying on her stomach. And and that is why we recommend in an advanced pregnancy for the woman to be in the lateral position and with a pillow under her, close to her abdomen. If a woman has shortness of breath she would feel more comfortable being propped up by the pillows, and if she is in the left lateral position which allows more blood extenuated to to to get to the baby."
