"Hi my name is Patrick McCarthy. I'm a doctor of physical therapy here at Wilmington Orthopedic Group. Right now I'd like to talk to you about volunteering at a clinic. A couple of reasons why you might want to get involved in volunteering at a clinic, one it gives you some experience. A lot of times physical therapy schools are looking at how many hours you have been observing or kind of the variety too so it is good to get a variety not just in an outpatient orthopedic clinic which is what we're in today but in maybe an inpatient clinic or a neuro clinic. There is also pediatrics but another reason is just to get the kind of see what it's like in the physical therapy clinic, see if it is for you. What you can expect to do as a volunteer is help out, get hot packs, cold packs, possibly walk patients back. It is not a lot of hands on care but really it's just a lot of observing so it's a good experience to I don't know, get your feet a little wet and see if you like physical therapy."
