"Hi my name is Christian with Mellow Johnny's Bike Shop in Austin, Texas, and today I am going to show how to clean a chain without removing it from the bicycle. First what you will want to do is grab a solvent or degreaser in this case we are using rubbing alcohol. This particular chemical basically allows you to clean things, and then it doesn't leave any harsh residue on the product itself or the bicycle component. And what you want to do is spray down the chain and cassette area, and you will get a basically a gear brush or you can use an old toothbrush. And you can run that along both the gears and the chain itself. And you will take that same chemical what ever one it is that you choose, apply it to your rag, and you can again grab the chain, cup that chain in the rag, and run the chain through the pedal motion. This may take a few minutes, but as you can see it is picking up a lot of the dirt and grime that is on the chain. And that is basically how you would clean a chain on the bicycle."
