A shaker with a strainer, a glass to shake it with, a martini glass for serving, the garnish of your choice, some gin, and some vermouth. Today we're going to make a classic martini. Traditionally, the martini is a gin-based drink featuring a little bit of vermouth. In modern times however, many martinis are vodka-based and feature everything from lemon juice to lime juice, to pomegranate juice, any other combination you can think of. For the moment however, let's look at the classic martini. Alright, so starting to make your martini, you want to fill your shaker with ice. And then pour your gin for a four count. One, two, three, four. At this point you're going to add your vermouth. Traditionally, a wet martini contain sweet vermouth, and a dry martini contain dry vermouth. This is a wet martini so we'll use just a dash of sweet vermouth out of two counts worth. Go ahead and shake. Cover the shaker with the strainer and pour. The sweet vermouth gives it that lovely amber color. You can then garnish it with a twist or cocktail onions, lime wedge, olives, blue cheese stuffed to olives, or whatever else you choose. And there you have a way to make the classic wet martini."
