Step 1
I like this method because you don't have to measure out the yarn as you do for a long tail cast on.
1. Make a loop over the needle and tie it. This will be your first stitch .
TIP: leave a long strand at the beginning end that you can use later to sew up the two sides of a sweater. -
Step 2
step 22. Hold the needle in your LEFT hand pointing to the RIGHT
-
Step 3
step 3Place your left thumb on top of the needle and your left index finger below the needle. (Your thumb should be closer to you and the index finger away from you.) Hold the dangling yarn taut over your right index and below your right ring fingers.
-
Step 4
step 4With your right hand guide the right needle up through the loop on the left needle
-
Step 5
step 5With your right hand put the yarn over the right needle, pull that needle downward while pulling the yarn with it under, pull it forward, twist it up onto left needle. You should now have 2 stitches on left needle.
-
Step 6
Continue casting on till you have as many stitches as you want. You are now ready to knit.

on 10/19/2009 That seems really complicated. Great demonstration. I might want to get into the whole knitting trend, but I'm left handed and turning all these instructions around may be a little taxing for a beginner. Nice video.

on 10/18/2009 Thank you for taking the time to write. I'm sorry it went too fast for you. I actually made a slower version, but as I am new to e-how I have been unable to edit and replace it. Keep watching for more videos. I'll try to go slower.

on 10/16/2009 Hello~
Thank you so much for taking the time to make this video and post such detailed instructions. It's very much appreciated :)
I've crocheted for many years and the crochet I've done has been very simple-nothing too fancy. I really want to learn how to knit more than anything and always have. It's just such a great craft and the possibilities of making beautiful things are endless.
I hate to be critical of anyone, especially you who has taken the time and obviously put great effort into this. But your video instructions are way too fast for me to keep up and be able to follow along. Maybe it's just me? I played the video over and over and over again, pausing in between. I don't know how many times I did that. I just couldn't get it. It was just too fast and because it was so fast I couldn't get a clear picture of what you were doing with your hands, the needles, the yarn and s...
