Difficulty: Challenging
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Whichever state you decide to start with (Senator Franken always begins with the state he represents), remember that you must make sure that by the time you finish, all 48 states must fit on the paper and must be recognizable. The remaining steps will go into more detail in drawing the states themselves.

  2. Step 2

New England States (Northeastern corner): Start with Maine, then do New Hampshire, Vermont, Rhode Island and then Connecticut. When you do Connecticut, make sure you leave room for Manhattan Island (New York State).

  3. Step 3

Northeastern States: After you finish Nee England, start with New York and then do New Jersey and Pennsylvania. Do Maryland and Delaware next. Finish up with West Virginia and Virginia.

  4. Step 4

Great Lakes States: This is will be easy or hard depending on weather or not you include the Great Lakes themselves (Michigan, Erie, Superior, Huron and Ontario). Start with Ohio ans then do Indiana and Illinois. Do Mainland Michigan (the one directly above Indiana and Ohio), Wisconsin and then the other Michigan (the one next to Wisconsin). Finish with Kentucky.

  5. Step 5

Southeastern States: After this, things should be much easier. Start with Tennessee and and North Carolina. After that, do South Carolina, Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, Arkansas and Louisiana. Finish with Florida.

  6. Step 6

Middle America: These states are larger than the states east of the Mississipi River and thus will take much less time and precision. Start with Minnessota and then do Iowa and Missouri. Move on to North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska, Kansas, Ohio and finally Texas. Finish with Montana, Wyoming, Colorado and New Mexico.

  7. Step 7

Pacific States: Almost done! Open with Idado, Utah and Arizona. Washington State, Oregon and Nevada. Once you do California, you're done!

  8. Step 8

This is completely optional but after you've finished drawing all 48 states, label them and assuming you know them, write in the state capitals. Feel free to do Hawaii and Alaska if you feel so inclined as well.
