I thought PADI's standard was using just one hand and pushing against the middle of the mask near the forehead with the palm of the hand. This is still a good video, though! Thanks.

Hi my name is Valerie Kevorkian and I'm with Tarpoon Lagoon Dive Center Miami Beach, Florida. In this clip we're going to show you how to purge a scuba mask. This is typically done in the water but for the purposes of our video we're going to show you how to do this up on top of the water. The diver will purge his mask which is simply clearing the water out of the mask should any water get into the mask and it does occasionally happen. Even the most perfectly fitting mask occasionally may get some water into it. It's important that you know how to get the water out and we call that purging the mask. What you would do is hold your head up looking up, slightly ever so slightly remove the bottom of your mask allowing water to flow out. You're going to displace the water with air by exhaling out of your nose and into the mask. It may take you a couple of times to do that, what you would do is simply breath in through your regulator and exhale out your nose. If your mask has a purge valve in it, the purge valve is that one way valve that allows water out but not in. What you would do is simply look down this time to allow the water in the mask to get near the purge valve and then you would exhale out your nose. That would allow the water to leave the mask.
