Hi my name is Lisa and I am a hairstylist in Wilmington, North Carolina and I'm here to talk about how to make a headband with your own hair. So what I'm going to do tonight is I'm going to create a headband with a French braid technique and this is a really good semi updo style for any length hair. It has to be long enough to braid but you really have to have you know just really a few inches to do this type of style so you'd want to part the hair from ear to ear across the top of the head and in this case I'm going to clip our model's hair up in the back to get it out of the way. So I'm using a little bit of water just to hold the hair together because we don't want to make it too sticky with hair spray, that can come later and she's got nice long straight hair that's going to be really easy to braid. So I start on one side of the head and you start with a three-strand braid and if you're just practicing your French braiding and you're just learning this is a really good braid to start with. I'm going to kind of stand on my tippy toes here. So as you're finishing braiding the section coming close to the bottom of the section towards the ear what we're going to do here is we're going to finish it up and just braid it down a little bit and we're going to secure it behind the ear so you can take it all the way down and you can either let this part dangle down if you wanted to create that kind of look or in this case we're going to secure it with a covered elastic and then we're going to kind of just tuck it behind the ear and if you have to you can use a couple bobby pins and then we're going to let down the rest of the hair and we have a braided head band and that is one way to make a headband out of hair.
