Hi, this is Coach Jesse Shale from Miami, Florida. In this clip we're going to show you how to use a mouthguard and probably one of the ways you want to start off with is to explain what a mouthguard is and probably it's self-explanatory a little bit; but as far as the purposes and the functions of a mouthguard, it might be new to you. Mouthguard is usually something, it's form looks a little bit like a horseshoe; usually made up of some kind of rubbery plastic and you can purchase them from your local sport stores; even some, either bigger chains as well of mega stores, you can usually purchase these at. But they're usually ranged from very cheap to anywhere around four, five bucks maybe. You don't need to purchase the expensive ones though. Once you get one though you want to take it home and form it and there's usually some directions and it usually involves boiling some water; having a cold thing of water right next to it so you can throw it in for fifteen, twenty seconds; pull it out, put it in the cold water and stick it in your mouth. Once you do that, you want to bite down hard; not too hard, but with firm pressure and kind of suck the remaining water and air out of your mouth while your mouth is remaining close. Hold it out for ten to fifteen seconds and then pull it out and your mouthguard will be formed. That way it will fit better to your teeth, to not only protect your teeth; but also, mouthguard's purpose is to help prevent contusions which some, a lot of people might not know. So once you have your mouthguard ready, you could, usually there are kinds where you can either have them all by themselves or they have a string or some kind of strapping and hook on to a, a face mask and this is going to help a lot especially when you got players that probably don't keep good track of everything. You don't want to go losing your mouthpiece because, in a lot of a, a lot of high schools, a lot of high school leagues and everything you cannot play if you do not have a mouthguard. So this is very important. It usually fits snugly either somewhere in the mouth or in the face guard itself. But you can go ahead and just slide it into your mouth and you play from this position. Don't worry too much about anybody sticking their finger in and pulling this thing out of your mouth. They'd have to try and pretty hard to do that and after you pretty; that person to do that. But the mouth guard is very important and you want to make sure that you always use one even if you think it's not necessary, for your own safety. This has been Jesse Shale, thanks for watching.
