So one of the best ways to get started are the guys that I know that have been general managers, is to get in an entry level position. A lot of times that can be done through an internship or any other small entry level type job within the organization. Learn the trade, learn what a general manager has to do, learn the various parts of the hiring and firing of personnel. Getting together your media people, your advertising people, all your grounds people, all the things that has to be one to make the baseball team work officially. Learn the position, learn the job description from the ground up, get some work experience. Then you can apply for assistant manager somewhere, and eventually become a general manager of a baseball team. But in short, that's how you become a general manager.
