"Hi, I'm Stephen Smith, owner of Viva Fitness, in Atlanta, Georgia. I work at Urban Body Fitness, also located in Atlanta, Georgia. Now, I'm going to talk about how to become a Certified Personal Trainer. There's several ways you can become a certified personal trainer. You can be certified via the Internet; you can get their equipment and study at home courses, or you can take certification over weekends. Certain organizations that offer courses are ACE, American Council on Exercise, and the granddaddy of them all is the American Council on Sports Medicine, or the ACSM. To become a certified personal trainer it is good to have an understanding of how the body works. Know the muscular system. Know the skeletal system. All these are important because when you have clients these are things they're going to want to know about, how the muscles function, how to exercise properly, and how everything works together. And having a knowledge on nutrition is another key thing to know if you're going to become a certified personal trainer. Having a background or degree in physical education and health, if you have that you're one step closer to becoming a certified personal trainer."
