Hi this is Yolanda Vanveen and in this segment I'm going to talk about how to grow liatris or liatris from seed. Now liatris spicata or gay feather is a beautiful addition to your garden. The butterflies just love it. Anything that has got a fuzzy flower the butterflies love. It's a wonderful plant and it's easy to grow as long as you've got a full sunny spot. Now the seeds develop into bulbs so you can plant them as a bulb or you can plant them as a seed. Either way it's really easy. Now the seeds you can collect these as they dry and they are done blooming you can save them and then just start them every Spring but the plants are hardy they will come back even in minus 30 degree weather. So you just take the seeds and you can put them right into a container or right into the ground and what I like to do is just kind of cover them up right into my container and put about one or two inches of soil on top and mist it well. Don't water it too hard because the seeds will just come out and you just want to barely mist it until it stays pretty moist. Now the trick is to keep it moist but not too wet and you will find that if you start the seeds in late Spring to even mid Summer your liatris will come right up and it will bloom for you each year. It's a wonderful plant for your garden.
