Hi this is Yolanda Vanveen and in this segment I'm going to talk about how to grow broad beans or fava and they're really a popular bean right now because they have all types of nutrients and they're really easy to grow. So broad beans are also called fava or horse beans and they're actually a giant vetch and they've been around since medieval times and used in the Mediterranean areas and you can eat the pods before they are mature like a sugar podded pea or you can once they are mature you can take the seeds out and use them by the seeds. So unlike other beans that are more a warm season bean they are actually a cool season bean so it's best to start your beans earlier in the season. You want to do it after the last frost but before it warms up too much because once it is too warm out they're hard to grow. So when you're planting the seeds you want to plant them one inch deep and put them in a real sunny spot and I always add at least three or four or five even to one pot and then that way you can have more space and give them something to grab on to although they do kind of stand tall on their own but broad beans or fava beans are a really great addition to your garden and so easy to grow.
