Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Open up the chuck to it's widest point and determine what type of screw is used. In the Panasonic drill in the video it's a straight screw. Other tools may be hex, phillips or even a torx head. What they all have in common is they are reverse thread.

  2. Step 2

Lock the transmission on the tool with the forward reverse selector. Now using the appropriate driver loosen the screw inside. Remember, it is reverse thread, turn it to the right to loosen. Remove the screw.

  3. Step 3

Place a large L shape hex wrench in the chuck and tighten the chuck. The chuck itself is standard thread, so turn to the left to remove. It may take a little muscle or even a sharp blow on the end of the hex key to break it loose.

  4. Step 4

To install new chuck, just work your way in reverse and remember the inner screw is reverse thread. The video shows a Panasonic EY6432 drill but the procedure is basically the same on any cordless drill.
