Step 1
Find out the going rate on sites like Ebay and Craigslist. What are the prices of similar size and year models in your Area. These sites are better then something like kelly blue book.
-
Step 2
Make sure your bike is running well, change the oil and any other Maintenance issues. You can sell the bike that has problems but be Honest.
-
Step 3
Clean up your Bike, make sure you wash all the nooks and crannies too. Wash the tires and then apply tire polish. This will make those tires look 1o times better. No one wants to buy a Vehicle that looks dirty and runs rough.
-
Step 4
Take Lots of pictures of everything. Different angles. Point out the great features of the Bike and The Bad ones. Take video if you can, ride the bike back and forth down the street showing how it runs and stops. This really is worth the effort. You will get many more calls then without it.
-
Step 5
Craigslist listing, List on craigslist under For Sale Motorcycles. List the year, model, mileage, how it runs, how many miles are on the tires, if it leaks oil. Something that I like doing is listing the Good and The Bad/
The Good is New Parts, New Repairs. The Bad is Dents on the Tank, broken turn signals, oil leaks. -
Step 6
To get the best price for your motorcycle list the price a few hundred more then what you think you will get. That way when they talk you down you get the price you really wanted.
-
Step 7
Make sure you leave your email and phone number. Not everyone on Craigslist is as Tech Savvy as you. Some people are looking for a motorcycle and Just want to talk to someone on the Phone about it.
-
Step 8
Stop by and check it out.
You will almost immediately start to get offers from people even before they see the bike, Most of the time these people are just wasting your time. They will call with low ball offers before they even come see it. It's best to wait and see what other offers come in. Be open with your schedule and show the bike often. -
Step 9
It is up to you if you trust them to test ride it.
-
Step 10
SOLD. When you come to a agreement, have a pre written bill of sale with everything filled out but the price. Fill it out and make a copy for yourself. Check the Cash to make sure it's real or if paying with a check make sure it is a Cashier or money order. Enjoy your new bundle of cash!
