How to Make a Halloween Spider Puppet

Summary: Halloween is right around the corner, and I’ve got the cutest little Halloween Spider Puppet craft idea that you can do with your toddler! The materials are basic, and the instructions are easy. The project takes about 10 minutes. Let’s get started.

Instructions
  1. Step 1

    Gather your materials.

  2. Step 2
    Cut the spider body.
    Cut the spider body.

    Cut out two of the egg holders, from the egg carton. Make sure they stay connected at one side. This will be the spider’s body.

  3. Step 3
    Mark the spider body.

    With your permanent marker, mark 10 dots on the spider's body as shown. 4 dots on one side, 4 dots on the other side, and 2 dots on top. This will be the area where you will insert the spider's legs, and the puppet string.

  4. Step 4
    Poke holes for the legs.

    Using your toothpick, poke holes where all of the dots are.

  5. Step 5
    Cut the legs in half.

    Using your scissors, cut the 2 pipe cleaners in half.

  6. Step 6

    You should now have 4 pipe cleaners that are 6” long.

    Insert the spider legs.

    Take one of the pipe cleaners, and insert it into the hole. Carefully guide the pipe cleaner through the hole, and into the matching hole on the other side. It should look like the picture. Make sure the pipe cleaner is even on both sides.

    Shape the legs.

    Once you’ve inserted the pipe cleaner completely through, bend the pipe cleaner as shown, to form the spider's front legs. Continue inserting, and bending the pipe cleaners, until all 8 legs of the spider have been formed.

    Glue on the Halloween googly eyes, or you can draw eyes on with the marker, if you don’t have googly eyes.

  10. Step 10

    Have your child stand up, and measure a piece of string TWICE the length from the floor to his elbow, and cut it.

  11. Step 11

    Insert the cut ends of the string from the BOTTOM of the spider’s body, up through the top of the spider’s body.

  12. Step 12
    Tie string.
    Tie string.

    Tie each end of the string, to each end of the popsicle stick.

  13. Step 13
    Finished.
    Finished.
