Series Summary

People have been sewing their own clothing, bedding, and upholstery since practically the beginning of time. In fact, sewing predates the weaving of cloth, and was nearly universal among Paleolithic human populations. Sewing is the basic act of using a needle and thread to stitch together cloth, leather, furs or other material to produce a variety of household items. Today, most sewing is done by industrial sewing machines, however many people continue to sew for themselves, repairing clothes, mending seams, or making simple items like curtains or table cloths. In this free video series, our expert will show you how to sew a boppy pillow cover. Boppy pillows are used by breast feeding women to support their babies without too much strain. Our expert will show you how to pick out the best fabric for a boppy cover and how to prepare the fabric for sewing. You will also learn how to add a zipper to your boppy pillow cover and how to add bar loops. If you love sewing and want to make a handmade cover for your boppy pillow, let our expert show you everything you need to know.

"Hi, welcome to Expert Village I'm Gretchen Soares with Butterfly Boutique. Since we already discussed that we're going to launder this we want to make sure the seams are finished and the serger is the best way to do that. So we're just going to go around the edge again right next to the stitching we just had and finish these seams with the serger. If you don't have access to the serger you can accomplish this same thing by zigzagging your edges together on your sewing machine. Okay we're ready to unzip this, turn it right side out, and insert it onto our boppy pillow. Because these pillows are so stiff for nursing they make it a little hard to feed in but you can do it if you power it in. Now this is the part that is helpful if you have two hands, or two sets of hands but you can make it work with one too. The reason you want this super tight is because you don't want the kids to slip on it. So there's our nice hidden zipper or invisible zipper that you can barely see and we're going to go ahead and put our toy bar back on. And we now have a boppy fit for a princess."
