How to Copy Data to a New Hard Drive

Summary: Watch my video which won Ehow of the day in 2007 and you will learn how to perform this task. Copy data from one hard drive to another or copy data to a new location is very easy. Using the left mouse button, Click and hold on the file or folder in the source window. Drag the file to the new location and verify that there is a PLUS + next to your mouse cursor. Now release the left mouse button. The file is now being copied.

Instructions
  1. Step 1

    Open my computer.
    To open my computer, in vista just click start > Computer
    To open my computer in XP or windows 2000, click the my computer icon on the desktop or the start menu.

  2. Step 2

    Click the source drive and browse to the file or folder to be copied.

  3. Step 3

    Open a 2nd my computer window and browse to the destination folder. You can also copy directly to the root of the destination drive.

  4. Step 4

    Using the left mouse button, Click and hold on the file or folder in the source window. Drag the file to the new location and verify that there is a PLUS + next to your mouse cursor. Now release the left mouse button. The file is now being copied.
