"Hi, I'm Dean with Aigulle Rock Climbing Center and I'm going to talk to you a little bit about the equipment that you need for basic rock climbing. First off, you need a harness to wear when you are climbing on the wall, when you're belaying for somebody else, it needs to be a climbing certified harness with a waist loop that goes around your waist and leg loops that go around your upper thighs. You need a rope to attach yourself to when you are climbing as well as when you are belaying and you're holding the rope for somebody else while they are climbing. You need a belay device and a locking carabiner to attach yourself to the rope when you are belaying for somebody who is climbing. When you are climbing most people like to have a pair of climbing shoes that help them progress up the wall a little bit easier. Especially outdoors most people like to wear a helmet which protects them mostly from rock fall as well as from swinging into the wall and hitting their head. And then a lot of people like to have a chalk bag when they are climbing that way it keeps their hands from getting sweaty while they're progressing up the wall."
