We are going to talk about some differences between freshwater and saltwater equipment. Right now there really isn't a whole lot of difference. I can take my freshwater stuff and go fish for certain species of saltwater. One of the big differences between freshwater and saltwater equipment is material that it is made out of and generally the size. I can take my freshwater equipment and go fish for saltwater fish up to a certain size, certain techniques and things like that so just to say that there is specific freshwater equipment and saltwater equipment when it comes to this type and this size of stuff is there is a lot of crossover. With a freshwater reel you are going to, they are generally smaller, your spools are smaller, you are not making as long as casts. Your rods are going to be lighter, they're going to be shorter lighter action. When you do take your freshwater equipment out and if you use it for saltwater make sure as soon as you get home and really even before you get home as soon as you come off the boat is to rinse them down, rinse your reels down with freshwater so you can get any kind of saltwater off. Do the same with your rods, the guides. You want to rinse your guides off because it will rust and saltwater equipment generally uses a different type of material to keep the rust off of them, the salt from corroding it on the reels. Your freshwater bait casting reels, a lot of guys use these same reels for fishing like calico bass, red fishing, small inshore, we'll call it inshore type fishing, speckled trout, things like that. They use the exact same equipment as the freshwater stuff. If, there again when you come in make sure you rinse your stuff off, get all the salt off as you can, make sure you totally submerge them into freshwater, rinse them off good and dry them off really good so they won't rust and you know you'll have a lot of crossover and then that way it will make sure your freshwater equipment when you go saltwater fishing lasts you for a very long time.
