Hello I'm Jacklyn Laflamme from JacklynLaflamme.com. In this clip we're going to learn how to apply color pencil work into grisaille. Grisaille is 70% French gray and it's used to build the grisaille or foundation to establish form and volume. The white paper is left uncovered where there are highlights. So we're going to start, and for this particular example we're going to use a flower. So we're just going to go very roughly and rough in our petals for the flower. And we're going to take the French gray and just very lightly shadow in where the highlights of the flower would be. And you can see I'm using the side of the pencil. A little bit more pressure on the edges, a little bit less pressure towards the top. So wherever we want our shadows to be that's where we're going to have the gray. Once we get finished laying out our gray, remembering to leave the areas that are going to be white. For this particular example I'm going to use a pink. So we're going to come in over our gray and start laying in the pink. And as you can see by putting the shadows in first our flower is going to have a really nice 3-D effect using this very simple technique. Again I'm using the side of the pencil just to fill in where the color in the flower would go. And we're going to just add a little bit more up in this area here. And you can see how you get those nice variations of light and dark just by laying that foundation of gray. And we can go ahead and add a little bit more detail with the fine line so that it really makes our flower pop off the page. And then we have our white areas that are highlighted. And we can just add a few little dots just to bring our flowers up. And real quickly here we can take our green and just fill in the stem very, very quickly. And you see you get your lights and darks just from forming the gray. You can add in a little leaf. And that is how you do the grisaille with colored pencil.
