"In warm water fishing, there's usually just one type of spoon that's used and that is called a slab spoon, a big chunk of metal. The most common is the hammered silver spoon that resembles a bait fish, shads. This also is a slab spoon with just a shiny side and an eye spot on it and these spoons are fished straight up and down. They hit the bottom, you pull them off the bottom and let them flutter back down simulating an injured bait fish so we have hammered silver. We have attractive reflectors on the side. We also have a tiny slab spoon that is made much like a thread fin shad. It has a coating that's got blue on the top, a little eye spot and a little attractive tail, a little chartreuse hook on the back but all essentially the same. Then we venture out into something that's a little more specific. This spoon looks exactly like a crappie. If you were fishing in trees with a lot of crappie that were being used as forage by bass this would be the spoon that you would use there. Interestingly enough this spoon looks like an ocean fish. It's an ocean spoon still the same basic design. It looks, it has a couple of eye spots on it, a little color that's much like a squid so this spoon represents a squid. All of these provide a forage response that will attract predators and let them come eat. All of these spoons represent food to the fish. The little spoon would represent a small fish, these bigger spoons represent probably a yearling shad or some type of shiner. This looks like a crappie, a little tiny shad. This spoon is more of a swimming spoon. You throw it out and reel it back much like a crank bait. This is more like a trout spoon and the other types of spoon that we see but also very effective particularly when there is moving forage going through the water these spoons resemble shad and other forage fish."
